Accessibility for Shopify stores
Theme, apps, checkout. Know which one stops your customers.
A Shopify store is your theme plus every app you’ve installed, and each one adds its own code to the page. Your customers can’t tell them apart, and a complaint names your store, not the app. I test your store by hand and sort every barrier by where it comes from, so you know what to fix, what to ask a vendor for, and what to switch.
Where Shopify stores break
Four sources of barriers, four different fixes.
-
Your theme
- What breaks
- Sliders the keyboard skips, low-contrast text over images, menus and drawers that lose focus.
- What I do
- Fixed in your theme code, on a copy you preview before it goes live. Many contrast issues are a theme setting, not code.
-
Installed apps
- What breaks
- Cookie banners that trap the keyboard, review and social feeds whose popups lose focus, signup popups that can’t be closed.
- What I do
- Apps run their own code, which your theme can’t change. I find the setting that avoids the problem, or tell you what to report to the vendor, or which app to switch to.
-
Accessibility app
- What breaks
- A toolbar that changes text size and contrast for visitors who turn it on. It doesn’t change how the store works with a keyboard or screen reader.
- What I do
- Tested as your visitors get it, so you can see what it does and doesn’t cover before your next renewal.
-
Checkout
- What breaks
- Card errors and required fields that aren’t announced, and steps hard to finish at high zoom.
- What I do
- Mostly Shopify’s code: outside Shopify Plus, stores can’t change it. I test it and write up what to raise with Shopify, so you know where you stand.

- A fixed quote for me to make the theme fixes, if you want them done
Fixed price (USD)
$595
Save $251: $846 if you book each part separately

How fixes are made
Nothing changes on your live store until you say so.
- 1
Collaborator access
You approve a collaborator request from my Shopify Partner account. No passwords are shared, and you can remove access at any time.
- 2
A copy of your theme
Fixes go into a duplicate theme. Your live store doesn’t change while I work.
- 3
You preview, you publish
You get a preview link and the retest results. You publish when you’re happy.
Good to know
Not legal advice
Questions about a demand letter or a lawsuit are for your counsel. The report gives them the evidence.
I don’t change app code
Apps belong to their vendors. I change settings, write up the report for the vendor, or suggest an alternative.
Theme updates can undo fixes
Updating to a new theme version replaces edited files. A retest after an update shows what needs doing again.
Send me your store’s address
Tell me your store, the apps you rely on, and anything customers have said. If something is urgent, such as a demand letter, say so and I’ll start with what it names.
